Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford also discusses the game's most recent delay

Gearbox plans to reveal Aliens: Colonial Marines' multiplayer component "very soon" having given it "a huge amount of attention".

CEO Randy Pitchford told the PlayStation Blog: "Multiplayer is a big deal for us. I think we'll be looking for some opportunities very soon to get some people outside of our studios, including some journalists, to have a chance to preview the multiplayer game and play a bit of it.

"We're really looking forward to testing it against other eyes and getting some feedback from that, so it shouldn't be too long before we make that happen."

Pitchford also addressed the game's most recent delay to autumn 2012, saying: "Creating deadlines is helpful to the process, but we do regret where it creates expectations that cause us to choose between changing expectations or compromising the vision.

"Aliens: Colonial Marines has been a dream project - a labor of love. We're fully committed to our vision for the game."

I'm starting to think that unless it's a COD / Battlefield game then the multiplayer component will be dead within 6 months anyway. Take Goldeneye Reloaded - the multiplayer is main reason to buy it but it's literally empty and it's only been out a few months. The same thing happened to the likes of Brink, and even a big title like Red Dead Redemption at times

If they want to spend time doing multiplayer, then go the extra mile and put in bots. At least then there will be a point to dusting the game off and firing up once it's been out a while...

If by Multiplayer it means 4+ player co-op, then: f**king Awesome, don't blow it.

If it means the same old team death match, or variations of capture the flag, king of the hill: f**k Off.

AVP had the versus' element, give us a true Aliens Co-op experience, some sort of persistent leveling system with unlockables, then you'll be well received by the gaming crowd.

Unwanted, unnecessary multiplayer responsible for Aliens: Colonial Marines delay to autumn 2012

Pitchford addressed the game's most recent delay, saying:

"Rather than focusing on developing a fantastic story/campaign, we're only going to give you a decent campaign because we're gonna waste our time on multiplayer that will be dead in 6 months, at best. Basically we're chasing the 'CoD Dream' so we need to find a way to make Aliens a bit like CoD, that way CoD players will look at our game.

Interviewer: They'll look at Aliens for ten seconds then they'll buy the new CoD instead, won't they Randy?

Randy Pitchford: Yes that is correct.

    @ The Last Dodo

I agree with you, if they go down the Versus MP route. If is all co-op, ala Bulletstorm, then it could be great.

My gripe is why these companies even both putting a Versus MP in. Only COD and BF games, and to some extent Gears of war games, have large numbers in terms of FPS/3rd person shooting games.

Take Singularity for example, fantastic campaign but dead MP and what is more annoying is the a third of the achievements are for MP, which you're never going to get, as the servers are dead.

How about for once, they completely ditch the Versus MP in a FPS games, and concentrate on the campaign like if use to be before MP became popular.

Hopefully Aliens will be worth the wait.

When I first saw this trailer it was a major let down to me...

Not because of the quality of it but because I had a stupid facebook game "CarTown" that my friend's young kid had invited me to, running in another tab that I forgot about and that gave the trailer a stupid backing track that would have done Dora the Explorer proud.

What made it worse was that I didn't realise what it was until the trailer stopped and the mind-numbingly atmosphere crushing music carried on :P

Really looking forward to this game. 4 player coop would be fantastic!

spot on there good sir, well said.

lets just have an up to date social multiplayer like the game on the jaguar all those years ago and get rid of this obsession with online multiplayer and selling dlc packs for it. i can fill my front room with players just about anytime which is better than waiting hours for a n almost empty lobby to get a few people in then finding i dont have the dlc i need to play it or that the only people there are foul mouthed little cheating scumbags that make an excellent case for post natal abortions

Wait, haven't they already said that the main campaign will have 4 player drop in/out co-op?

Multiplayer will always trump co-op due to the growing MP community, ideally have both but if anyone thinks the DLC thing is a flash in the pan I can suggest a good mental institution....
