Sony has confirmed it will be releasing firmware 1.60 for the PlayStation Vita in Japan on Wednesday.
The first major update for its handheld will introduce two new features: a map application featuring satellite imagery, positional and directional information, along with the ability to make videos using the handheld's in-built camera.
On top of those two features the Home button will now flash blue when the Vita is connected to power. Hooray for flashing lights.
Sony has also confirmed it will be releasing Mac compatible version of its content management assistant for the handheld. This allows users to transfer data between a computer and the device.
Lastly the update will also rebrand PlayStation Network Accounts as a 'Sony Entertainment Network Account' or SENA. Find out more about that here.

"along with the ability to make videos using the handheld's in-built camera." What? It couldn't do that before? Hmm i think i will wait until all the features 'i want' are already on the PSVita, then i will buy it(saying that its the GAMES that is the most important thing. And PSVita's line up looks excellent)

lol so you'll wait for things like Video before spending £200+ on a "games" console?
Please tell us what other "features" you're waiting for before buying? Tea maker? Dish washer app?

Flashing Blue Light? SOLD!!!
In all honesty I already have this Pre-Ordered, Wifi + Uncharted + 16gb Card! The 22nd can't come fast enough... it's seriously dragging!!!
This looks like the best console launch ever! ...Trophies-Yo!

Well the flashing light is all very exciting but can we have a feature that allows remote play of existing PS3 titles? Please? Pretty Please? With cherries on top?

As I aware, the maps is only really useful with the 3G (GPS).
Sony, please explain the difference between the 2 models properly FFS.
What funcionality does the 3G model give you?
Also, what are the rates for 3G. There is nothing on Vodafones site.

another firmware?
bloody hell, this really is psp all over again, more firmware updates than games worth playing.

Not sure about the rates for Vodafones but if you want to know the difference between the 3G and Wi-Fi have a look on the playstation eu site, here is a link for starters;

The main hardware difference besides the 3G is the internal GPS beyond that it is just software applications and they could vary depending on not only Sony but other 3rd party developers. I would suggest if you have any interest in the Vita have a regular look at the Playstaion EU blog on a regular basis.

Yeah the whole remote play thing is a pain. I think Sony have gone off the idea. Shame they ran around the TGS shouting about it so much.

How cool would that flashing blue light be if it also made a "woooooshooopwoooooshooooopwoooooshooooo…" noise as well.

There are pics and vids of homebrew allowing the running of BF3 using remote play on the vita so expect it to be working properly in the near future.
Most ps3 games will work from the get go but complex games will not for a while.

I can't wait for this machine. The remote play is one of the things i'm most excited about along with Uncharted. Just been on Amazon and there giving away a free 8gb memory with the console. AHope that stops the whole memory card fuss for UK buyers.
