Final Fantasy X HD 'is a remaster, not a remake,' says Square Enix

Producer clears up confusion about PS3 and Vita HD release

Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto has said the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita re-release of Final Fantasy X is a "high-definition remaster" and not an entirely new remade version of the PS2 JRPG.

The confusion is the result of Square Enix's rather ambigious reference to the project as a 'remake' during Tokyo Game Show last year. However, Hashimoto has taken the opportunity to dispel any confusion at the Taipei Game Show.

"The game is being developed like a high-definition remaster, but the visuals will look much better compared to the original," he explained.

Japanese gaming site, Andriasang, points out that the "Remaster" is likely be in the same vein as the HD updates of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.

Last Friday saw the release of Final Fantasy XIII-2, it has taken the top spot in this week's UK all-formats chart and removed FIFA 12 from No. 1.

Did anyone actually get confused? It was always going to be a remaster...Square are to tight to do a proper remake.

I'm Glad they are not just sticking it in HD resolution and leaving it at that. The washed out PS2 textures, lack of anti alising and general graphical limitations of the PS2 graphic hardware would not improve with just upping them into 1080p. I still don’t understand why they didn’t include X-2 & XII as well, but then I’m not SqureEnix’s accounts I suppose.

and likely to be in the same vein as MGS HD and ICO Collection HD

That sounds as though THEY ARE "just sticking it in HD"

    I want a Xbox 360 version

    .........really?

Out of all of the games in the series to "remaster", the choose this one.

I... I just don't know what to say. Square keeps on keeping on with their wtfails.

well they wouldn't do anything before it would they. They'd need a full on remake which is something Square enix seem to be against doing despite all the cash HD remakes FFIV - IX would snag them.

then again its not like Final fantasy is the same team that amde those gems anyway. You want the real continuation of the final fantasy series your best bet is to get a copy of Lost Odyssey and The Last Story.

I'm pretty sure it just means the cutscenes will be re-rendered in 1080p and the game output in HD, though I hope it'll be 1080p and not the disappointing 720p that MGSHD runs at.

If I can move my save file between PS3 and Vita, I'm buying it for both.

I think from what he is saying they are going to do more than just up it tp 1080p. Based on the fact that the other PS2 HD remasters are packs of 2 or 3 games for the £30 price tag and Square is selling just the one (which makes think they are spending more time on the remaster) I sense that they are going to beef up the visuals with some better textures lighting and colours. I could be wrong but I read somewhere the team saying that they wanted it to look better than just a higher resolution. We will have to wait and see but if it is only a 1080p boosted for £30 plus then I won't be getting it.

You're in the minority in this discussion, therefore, no one cares about what you have to say, moreover, STFU

Nothing wrong with X, in fact it's probably one of the PS2's best games.
