Last week we reported on a valiant group of Half-Life fans, planning to play Half-Life 2 over the weekend as a protest against Valve's lack of communication about Half-Life 3.
In total around 13,000 of the 30,000 Steam group members showed up and this still exceeded the game's normal Steam activity by 10,000 players, which is still quite impressive.
"I am personally impressed with what we've achieved today," the protest's organiser said. "We're nowhere near done - in fact, we are currently in the process of planning new activities. This was only our first attempt and, in my eyes, was a success for everyone."
The movement began last week when fans fed up with the Valve's silence on the future of the Half-Life franchise reached boiling point.
"While continued support for current and future products is greatly appreciated, fans of the Half-Life series have waited years for a word on when the franchise will return. So, Instead of focusing efforts in a negative and disrespectful way, we have decided to gain Valve's attention by delivering a basic message:
"Your oldest and longest running fanbase would like better communication. Waiting patiently for over four years is a daunting task, especially when E3 comes and goes without any beat of a Half-Life pulse, time and time again... The entire trilogy of episodes was scheduled to be completed and released by 2007, and if Valve has decided to do other things for the time being, that's fine.
"All that we ask for is a basic response on the matter, and to let fans know whether or not the current story arc is scheduled to conclude at another point in time."
We're right there with them, although admittedly we didn't play Half-Life 2 over the weekend either. So we're part of the problem.

Apalling maths skills CVG.
13,000 showing up out of 30,000 is surely more than half of them who DIDN'T show. Duh.
Perhaps you meant less than half of them DID show up?

Surely it's appalling English skills if we're being pedantic?

It doesn't really matter the point of the story is that even though not everyone showed up the demonstration was still a success. Wonder what they're planning next. They should all fund Black Mesa of club together to somehow get it finished and then Pressure valve to have it relased as the official half life remake.

waaa waaa i'm not complaining and whining about a timesplitters sequel, let them do half life for next gen for consoles and just wait for pc guys, games are better with longer gaps between them

Oh yeah, this.
They said there were doing this a week before, but I was playing Peace Walker HD pretty much all weekend. Ah well, it's unlikely that Valve would have revealed Episode 3 because 13,001 people loaded up Half-Life 2.

Valves silence over Half Life 3 is quite disrespectful to its fans and I'm quite glad many didn't show up. Why show positive support for a company that takes its fans for granted and expects them to go on showing support for the franchise indefinitely? If the company treats fans with a passive attitude they deserve the same attitude towards their titles.
