FFXIII-2 dev speaks out over contentious ending

Square reasons its thinking behind the new RPG's conclusion

Final Fantasy XIII-2 director Motomu Toriyama has spoken out in response to fan cries regarding the game's ending.

If you want to reach the end of Final Fantasy XIII-2 with no knowledge of how it concludes, don't read on. Obviously.

Still reading? Okay...

Players who've already smashed their way through Square's latest effort are rewarded at the end with a 'To be continued...' message, which is understandably infuriating after dozens of hours of work.

Speaking at the Taipei Game Show 2012 event recently, the game's director explained that there are a number of reasons why the developer chose to end the game this way.

First, it wanted to push gamers into exploring the multiple 'paradox' endings possible. Then it wants you to look forward to download content - Toriyama says the game will be extended with DLC campaigns, and that he will be working on extensive expansions for the title.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 has taken the top spot in this week's UK all-formats chart, finally removing FIFA 12 from its long spell at No. 1.

That explains why this game is so short compared to the rest of the FF's, because they want you to buy half the game now and the rest later via DLC. These people at Square-Enix should keep their mouths shut, nothing but depressing words come out of them now

Q: How many 8-bit bigots does it take to change Square's mind?

    A: ZERO

welcome to the new world of £100+ games.

they daren't charge what they want to at retail so rely on the fact that there are so many stupid people who will be prepared to pay full retail price for what is in fact half a game and then pay the same again to buy the rest of the game in £10-£15 pieces.

heck naco have given us a preview of the future with ridge racer on the vita, pay slightly under retail for the demo / loader than pay, pay, pay to buy the rest of the game in weekly dlc for between £2 and £5 a week, how quickly does your £30 retail game + overpriced memory card + weekly dlc become not only the most expensive vita game but also the one worth the least since most of its cost will be fully locked to your machine.

I wonder why is anybody playing this, I played XIII and it was awful, there's so many better RPGs, Xenoblade being the best I've played this generation, it is at least 10x better than the newest final fantasies
