Amazing Spider-Man details: Free-roaming, new moves, side-missions

Developer talks shop via Facebook

The Amazing Spider-Man's lead game designer has shared some gameplay info with rabid fans via the game's official Facebook page.

Although trailers have pretty much revealed the game's new open-world setting, the developer sought to confirm as such anyone needing absolute clarity: "Our game brings back free-roaming in Manhattan, where you guys will be able to swing around and discover a variety of side missions, challenges and mini-games in addition to the main storyline."

When asked about any new abilities, the dev spoke of a new mechanic called "Web Rush".

"We introduce an all-new gameplay mechanic called the Web Rush, which gives players real-time navigational and combat choices," they said. "Web Rush can be triggered on the fly, at any moment and immediately presents you with a variety of situational choices, letting you pull off Spidey's signature moves like never before."

Activision recently released a single new screenshot for The Amazing Spider-Man which, yet again, drew comparisons to EA's 3D platform title Mirror's Edge.

    Spider-man games (to me) always suffer from the same issue;

    Too much fluff, not enough web-swinging!!

    Crappy fights, linear levels but then you get that oh-so-sweet free roam section and my Giddy machine gets set to overdrive! I'd be pretty happy with a "Spiderman's Weekend Off" where all you do is swing around picking up the dry-cleaning and other petty tasks as long as the area was big and detailed.
