David Jaffe to quit Twisted Metal dev, focus on casual games - Report

God of War creator 'excited to go into casual space,' claims boss

God of War creator David Jaffe is expected to leave Eat Sleep Play, the studio he co-founded, after the development of Twisted Metal on PS3 is finished.

That's according to the company's other co-founder, Scott Campbell, who told the Salt Lake Tribune that both Jaffe and Eat Sleep Play have a desire to - separately - shift their focus to casual games.

"[Jaffe is] excited to go into the casual space as well," Campbell said. "He's got some projects that he's excited about. So we're kind of going down two separate paths."

Eat Sleep Play is said to have laid off eight employees last week as it finishes off Twisted Metal and transitions to mobile titles.

Jaffe responded to the Tribune report via Twitter, saying: "The rumors of me making casual games post TM - as many of you define them - are highly exaggerated."

Jaffe is a bit of a twit.

When he finished GOW, he complained on his personal blog that Video Games can't be narrative (or something daft like that) and that he only wants to work on casual games. So he made that PSN title (I forget the name) and soon claimed in an interview that he wants to get back in a AAA project (which was Twisted Metal) and no sooner is he done he now wants to work on casual games.

Seriously, he strikes me as someone who doesn't actually like video games, or in some way resent them :?

Wouldn't blame seeing how Sony treated him with Twisted Metal.

He'd better get used to using the asterisk key on twitter if he's going after the casual market. He needs to think of the children!

This is not true. He's not going to casual games. He is leaving eat sleep play. Starting a new studio for action games. Next gen s**t.

They included an online pass in the game which he would rather have not had; that however was not within his domain and was the right of the publisher to decide. Other than that I don't know what you mean.

I haven't played anything made by Jaffe since GoW, and to me that was criminally overhyped and nothing but a poor man’s Devil May Cry. He just seems way too concerned with his own self-importance, in fact the only nice thing I can think to say about him is his name reminds me of a Jaffa cake which I am rather partial to, so move along to your casual games Jaffe, nobody cares.

I also am partial to a Jaffa cake, and according to my book based on the T.V. series Q.I., they contain apricot and not orange. :? I don't care though, I can still eat a pack by myself and not break a sweat!

Self importance? How so? The guy just seems normal. He gave an awesome keynote speech. He loves twisted metal but knows where it stands.
God of war was a poor man's devil may cry? I dont know much about either but hasn't every dmc fan said that they are completely different games? Games attempting to accomplish different things cannot really be compared.

exactly, forcing him to cripple his game and reduce the number of online players for the sake of screwing with the LEGAL preowned market and a few extra pounds in their pockets, i hope they are happy with themselves, hopefully whatever he produces next will be for nintendo, ms and widows and be online pass free as it should be.

Pfft! If I wanted to steer a silly, annoying goth around hell, I'd simply point a sun lamp at one in Leeds.

I always thought it was orange! Oh well it's still fruit and as such I'm still counting it as one of my 5 a day, along with Terry's Chocolate Orange

Jaffe's just too fond of being in the spotlight, he likes to voice his opinion on everything and, because he found fame through the GoW series, he thinks this makes his opinion automatically the right one, that's the impression I get anyway.
You're right in saying GoW and DMC are completely different games, but since both focus on stylish action GoW has been continually favourably compared with DMC, even though the latter has depth to its combat, takes skill to master and most importantly doesn't rely on hand-holdy QTEs.

Well I'd rather steer a 'silly, annoying goth' than an angry bald bloke.
