Killzone PS3 re-release "delayed indefinitely"

No reason given for original game no-show

Guerrilla Games has said the PlayStation 3 release of the original Killzone has been put on hold indefintely.

The announcement was posted on the official Killzone Twitter feed and didn't provide any additional details on why it was been put on hold.

"With regards to KZ1 for PS3, not sure what happened but I've been informed that it's been delayed indefinitely," the Tweet read.

Sony first announced that the the original Killzone game will hit PSN in digital form early last month and was billed for release on January 24 through the PlayStation Network.

It's an odd turn of events since the game was simply a straight to digital conversion as opposed to a God of War or Team ICO games-esque HD update.

Yep pretty much sums it up.

delayed means, we are surprised by the response and have decided to give it the HD treatment and charge 3 times as much for it probably late 2012. and bundle all three games in a separate package while we are at it.

Hopefully they will do a HD update with Trophies :P :P :P Brilliant PS2 game it was + it deserves a HD update to i think.

Yeah it looks crap. search the game on youtube it just looks awful. We need the GTA games on PSN even the GTA '' stories '' versions.

Thank f**k!! Hopefully they're giving it the HD treatment with 4 player online co-op!! Much better game than it's sequels.

All the years it was hyped up, it turned out to be an average shooter, it was the same case with Black by EA. If you've not played it, you're not missing much, plus you can pick it up for p**s all used, if you've still got a PS2. Most old games are best left for Memory Lane, the same with these HD remakes that are not worth the money. But if Nintendo knocked out every Mario Kart on disc (upto say the GameCube version) for £20, I'd snap their hands off.

It would be cool if they remade Killzone with the Killzone 3 Engine. 8)

I never played the original Killzone before -but I'd buy it just for completeness of the triology.

Ooooo, I can't agree with that. The God of War ones got me right back into the action genre, the Prince of Persia ones also enjoyable, as well as the Ico and SotC pack, and I'm insane enough to be more excited about the Jak trilogy than Mass Effect 3.... just. Also finally getting round to playing Strangers Wrath which is pretty good. The Tomb Raider trilogy however, not so much.

Still got my Ps2 copy (which works fine on my Ps3). Good game at first but after a few hours gets really repetitive and dull. I didn't even know this was due a re-release anyway. Now as another poster said I wouldn't mind playing a proper HD re-make (similar to the Halo Anniversary re-make) in the Killzone 2/3 engine as I really enjoyed Killzone 2 and 3 and that would be something special.

Killzone 1 doesn't deserve a HD remake imho. I don't know why anyone would rather play Killzone 1 over 3. I'm sure KZ3 is better in every single way. Only classics such as the awesome GTA series should be remade.

I disagree. If the game mechanics and level layout were improved it could very much be worth a go if the game was made to run in the modern Killzone engine.

Well you can't shine crap no matter how much polish it has. its still crap. I haven't played it myself even though I have a PS2 I have seen some vids on youtube and seems pretty average if you ask me.

For its time maybe, but as I said if it was re-made (meaning level layout, gameplay mechanics etc) then it would be a different story, and as you said you haven't actually played it yourself. I will agree its very generic, even when it was released, but I'm sure with the right team behind it the story and levels can be redone to bring it up to modern standards.

I really don't see the point in that. They might as well make a new game from scratch or just work on Killzone 4.

Please release it, it's one of the few ps2 games I'd play again, that and Black, both beat any call of duty any day.

Black was average? By that you mean any shooter till date was average? Black, despite the graphics, it's the most fun shooter ever made, that one and Crimson Skies are the only old games I've replayed this generation on the 360. Those both beat any game nowadays for the FUN factor, and the difficulty was good, nowadays every shooter is too generic, easy, with lots of videos, like they wanted a movie instead, except the killzone and Halo games which are fun.

My god, you havent even tried it? And you're bashing the game because of videos on the net? I lost count of how many games I didnt enjoy even after the nice reviews and videos and how many games I enjoyed that had average reviews and such. If you only play games with nice videos, the, good luck with your call of dutys.

when Killzone came out, it was at the same time as Midway's area 51, I bought Area 51 and a friend bought Killzone, we both played both and we both preferred Area 51.

I didn't even know they were planning on releasing this on the PSN, I would've given it a play as I only jumped on the band wagon for the second instalment. I'd only be getting it to satisfy the completionist in me however, not due to the glowing reception it's received. It now seems someone has suddenly remembered it was rubbish and decided it would be best forgotten about. I don’t think anyone is going to be drastically upset.

And why should I waste my time and money to find out ? Not only that there are people who have played it and say it hasn't aged well. If I wanted to play a KZ game I would play KZ3 not a terrible version made in 2004.

Just looking at the videos you can tell its a piece of crap. Take your rose tinted specs off and look at it now. It looks and plays like crap.

No wonder why Halo used to be so popular when their closest rival was a joke.
