EA won't officially confirm it, but Dead Space 3 is in development. You know it, we know it, EA knows we all know it, and we all know EA knows we all know it.
But we don't really know a whole lot about the game itself. This is where our 'What we want to see' feature comes in, where we make a wish list of all the things we want to appear in the game. Here's our wish list...
New environment

There is that rumour that Dead Space 3 will take place on an ice planet, with Isaac having to deal with blizzards as much as monsters, so cue obvious references to John Carpenter's 1982 movie The Thing. Not that that's a bad thing however - it could work we guess. If it was set inside an abandoned facility populated only by necromorph and icicles then it could still maintain the darkness and creepy, isolated feeling of the previous games' locations, but then it could get a bit repetitive like the Ishimura again.
But hold on, this is a whole planet, meaning that you could have pretty much anything on it. This is where the variety can come in. Assuming that this rumour is true, the developers are no longer restricted to a spaceship, so they could put any creepy or desolate location in as they see fit. We think this will give the developers a lot more creative liberty when it comes to designing the levels. We approve of the rumour.

Hopefully EA listen, these are some good points. I especially like the last point, too many games now are focused on multi-player in order to keep people playing the game. However for a Horror game it just won't work, it completely takes away from the atmosphere if you're not playing on your own.
Lets just hope EA don't ruin Dead Space 3 like Capcom are doing with RE, we need someone to keep the horror survival genre alive!

I agree on some but not all. Ice planet? Yes please! Multiplayer? Eghh.. I played the last one for awhile, but it got boring. If your going to do it, do it another way or give more levels and options. Coop? No thanks. I really enjoy the singleplyer and playing it with a buddy would ruin what i love about Dead Space. First of all, hearing my friend make gay bashes or mom jokes while I am trying to hear creepy sh*t in through my headset is a killer. Secondly, it would take away my feeling of survival and just be a battle for most kills and that isn't Dead Space.
I also have to disagree with the previous games not being horror and just cheap scares. The second one, i could see it but not the first. The first one took me a year to actually finish and I was only motivated to do so by the sequel. I literally took a one year break from the game after getting freaked out and telling the game "F*ck this, i'm out!". I actually dreaded going back and finishing the game and i cant think of any other game that I have ever done that on.
Correction: Amnesia: Dark Decent.... I don't think i finished the demo!

great suggestions in this article survival horror is my favourite genre and im seeing it slowly fade away something must be done.

Amnesia is definitely the benchmark when it comes to horror games, in my opinion. I got it over a year ago - still haven't completed it.

I ADORE Dead Space, both of them, I really hope they do a good job with 3. Hope they don't make 3 an FPS. I know FPS horrors work well but DS works perfectly as it is and feels different, keep at it.
Every point you made was spot on. I would say however that: READ DIS EA
THERE IS A WAY MP COULD WORK.
My solution?
A sort of "Horde" mode. Personally I'd call it "Derelict" and focus on the ideal of dumping either you alone (against scoreboards), or you and a team of various sizes in a powered out ship (those would be the maps, different downed ships with different themes and varieties, traps hazards etc., or you could use other lacations too) then survive. If it was like dark as f**k and there was a hell of a lot of Necros, that'd be brilliant. You really would have to work together to bring them down and it'd be freaky if you couldn't see much. That way you have the atmosphere of SP, coupled with teamwork and a proven popular online Mp gametype with endless potential. PROFIT

I agree with pretty much all of that. Less shooty bits, more scary bits please, Visceral!

Make it less predictable please! A dark corridor with some flickering lights and vents on the walls, I wonder whats going to happen.

Both Games are instantly made better by playing on your own, in the dark, with a big screen and on Hard on your first play-through! Having a decent surround sound system or set of gaming headphones is also a must.
And I agree with the article, less action, more scares is definitely good. Multiplayer can do one.

My favourite part of 2 was probably when you went back onto the Ishimura. Nothing really happened for such a long time but it was tense as hell. Smthg along those lines would be a good start not whatever they did in the last 2 chapters.
Now if they want to make it a truly scary game they will have to start from scratch and they are not going to do that. Both games were creepy for the first 2 levels but after that it lost all of its scares so we all have to accept that it's an action game with horror elements not the other way round. I don't think that's a bad thing as the only devs that do it right are Frictional IMO.

yes please make game longer aswell, and choices are always good but huge game-changing choices, keep zealot mode, don't keep putting out armour dlc/weapons dlc.
more variety, more scares, more tension. but it is brilliant as it is

If it's set on an ice planet I'd like to be able to grab a monster and ice skake to my heart will go on by Celine Dion.

If they set it on a more organic world they could mutate the vegetation and the world itself

I found both scary... suspense and atmospheric music always scare me half to death
This series is brilliant. I just want tons of space opera madness. Epic battles. Heroic virtue. Insane Scifi.
Maybe First Contact with the race that created the original Marker...?
My number one requirement would be a strong underlying story-line.
I am all for a co-op campaign too. UC3 Adventure co-op mode shows how well this can work.
Although I have to admit that the mulitplayer was more comedic than scary

Maybe I'm a jaded old man, but I haven't been "scared" by a game. Ever. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Dead Space franchise, absolutely love it, but I've never been so petrified that I felt I was physically unable to continue, even on Amnesia. It makes me feel like I'm missing out!
Maybe I'm dead inside

I agree with the article, it needs to be more like Silent Hill 2 and less like Resident Evil 5. Also, take out the freaking vents! In number 1 it was kinda scary when they jumped out of them but in the sequel, they completely killed it. It became so annoying and predictable and in fact, it's one of the reasons I didn't warm to DS2 like I did the first.

Completed the first one, and IMO is the best game this gen.
The seocnd one, even though it is fantastic, was too Aliensesque. Meaning too much action (Even though Aliens is one of the greatesf films of all time).
The third one needs to go back to the atmosphere of the first, where you have no clue what is coming in next. That was the beauty of it.
That is all I ask really of Dead Space 3.

Both games did nothing in terms of scaring me, which I think in part is to do with the main character. you cannot have a bad-ass looking guy with a ton of high powered guns at his disposal and expect us to fear anything. I couldn't wait for each necromorph to turn up so I could blast it away, there certainly was no fear involved.
Nothing has ever come close to the fear experienced in the project zero games in my opinion, although I have heard good things about Amnesia. The first 2 resident evils had the sort of atmosphere needed, although even they ended up using cheap jump tactics to create their fear. It was more down to the fact that you actually had to try to kill the zombies with its awkward control scheme, low powered weapons (at least in the early part) and limited ammo. Silent Hill 2 is also one of the better horror games for its atmosphere, there was a pure sense of dread at times during that game, when the radio started crackling or the sirens went off - the atmosphere in that game was close to perfect - on the downside however, it felt like it was building up to something throughout which ultimately never came, with the usual mind-f*** storyline bull that has ruined the silent hill series over the years.
Other notable games would be the first condemned, where I fondly remember having to pause the game to calm down during a moment of panic and loud expletives as I was attacked by a group of junkies. The 2nd condemned was just weird. FEAR 2 had a few moments I remember jumping from, and one scene in the hospital where the atmosphere was near perfect, lights flickering from complete darkness to a gore filled room with something running around in the shadows.
IMO, Dead Space 3 won't be bringing us better fear, it's an action game in its purest form and won't be changing. They should watch Event Horizon.

I think i could definately be scarier and if they mixed up the spawn points would be great as long as they don't have hardcore again, I really didn't like it.
I think co-op would be fantastic if they do it differently then most co-op games. What i mean is, when the game first starts, Issac and Ellie are together but soon get seperated. Both players would be in completely different areas. They would each have different objectives to complete and the only talking would be when Ellie is hacking a door and telling Issac to hold off the necromorphs for just a bit longer or the other way around and of course what needs to happen next. They would meet up every once in a while but soon get seperated again. I think this would allow people to play together and still keep the horror factor. This would also mean that when playing by yourself, you wont have to protect your teammate like in resident evil 5. Neither player would be able to help each other in anyway. Being with someone and having it ruin the scares isn't possible except if the person you're talking to is constantly talking. You still have to watch your back at all times. Sure you would have to rely on your teammate at times but it wouldn't be often plus it would give people the oppertunity to see what Ellie or whoever it is with Isaac, is doing and get to experiance there side of he story.
I have no doubt there is something flawed somewhere with this idea but it is an idea that I think could work.
PS: I don't think it will be scary enough to scare me. For me Dead Space 1 was the scariest game I have ever played and it was hardly scary for me. So whatever they do, i will love it and beat it completely so long as Hardcore doesn't come back.

I completely disagree with all negative comments about multiplayer i found multiplayer just as enjoyable as singleplayer and hope that they will continue multiplayer with 2 more game modes a survival/ horde game mode where the humans hold an area. Also a game mode about engineers against earth gov(humans vs humans) using dismemberment to cause a last stand effect. necromorphs possibly enter the area in the last minute and flood the area and kill everyone to end the game. These are just ideas but would improve the game majorly as the multiplayer is maybe not as scary but it is just as fun. You can all agree that dead space 3 will most likely have multiplayer because there was a large gaming community playing but how much more awesome would the game be if it took on my ideas for multiplyer.

Co-Op is one of a plethora of things that ruined Resident Evil 5 and might doom RE6.
