Ubisoft 2012 release schedule confirms Assassin's Creed 3, Splinter Cell: Retribution?

New Prince of Persia, Brothers in Arms and Just Dance games also rumoured

Gameranx has published what it's referring to as Ubisoft's 2012 release schedule, featuring unconfirmed games including Assassin's Creed 3 and Splinter Cell: Retribution.

According to the site, Ubisoft "has just announced" the release schedule rather than it being leaked. We've sent an email to the publisher for comment.

The site claims Assassin's Creed 3 will launch this year for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U. CVG was recently informed that Assassin's Creed 3 is set to feature a new protagonist and switch setting to the American Revolution. A source close to the project told us the game's due to be publicly showcased before the end of the company's fiscal year on March 31 and released later this year.

In addition, the report supposedly outs the next Splinter Cell game as Splinter Cell: Retribution, for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

It goes on to say that new Brothers in Arms, Prince of Persia and Just Dance games are set for release this year. Here's the lot:

When was this announced? I know there was rumour, but I never heard anything official?

I'd be very surprised if we see Assassin's Creed 3. I know Ubisoft said there will be a major Assassin's Creed title this year, i just see it being a spin off or a side story... maybe involving Clay Kaczmarek.

For me Assassin's Creed 3 needs to introduce a new setting, new gameplay elements, new characters. I just don't think they could do that in a year.

Really looking forward to the next Splinter Cell game. Hope it is coming out this year! Although I'm sure purists will hate me for wishing it, but I want more Conviction-like gameplay.

It is entirely rumour, well new protagonist part is almost fact, but American Revolution is speculation from sources 'close to ubi'

Given that AC Revelations was said to be the end of the Ezio and Altaļrs story and an end to the quest in Italy I an unsure where they could spin it off to again without revisiting those characters and settings. Surely given how Revelations finished for those characters the next game is going to be a new setting and a new character.

If as you suggest they do follow Clay Kaczmarek that would be a new character who would come in a new setting

One things for sure, Desmond will still be the main in-our-world character interacting with the past again.

They also confirmed this years vita version will feature a new setting and character - but if that be a vita exclusive or simply a vita AC3 port is anyones guess.

Actually I wouldn't mind more Conviction-like gameplay. Chaos Theory perfected the "shadows-based" stealth, so I'm quite proud of Ubisoft Montreal for trying to evolve the game mechanics. Even though Double Agent (on PC) wasn't a huge success I was pleased that a major Developer was trying to do something different with an existing franchise and taking a risk rather than letting the formula get stale.

Franchise-wise, Sam Fisher's story is one of the few I feel personally invested in and with a title like 'Retribution' I'm looking forward to where Ubi Montreal take the franchise.

Oh and get rid of the damn "online-connection only", come on UBI, we need an "offline-connection too" if STEAM can do it why can't you guys??

Its good that they tried something different but sadly it didnt work, Double Agent Next Gen was nowhere near as good as Double Agent Last Gen. Whether that was down to the change of gameplay mechanics or the fact that UBiSoft Shanghai made the crappy next gen version while Montreal made the Last Gen version I don't know.

But with more games going down the action route and a major lack of sneak-em-up stealth games I hope the Splinter Cell franchise returns to the old formula myself

If it's true, it's weird the Ubisoft release the only console version of Ghost Recon: Online for the Wii-U.

Oh I agree that what they did didn't really work out so great when it came to DA Next Gen, but as you said I think that's more down to Ubisoft Shanghai who also did the rather poor Pandora Tomorrow. I tried the DA Last Gen and that was a game with superior gameplay and a far superior storyline, and that was from Ubisoft Montreal who started the whole SC thing in the 1st place.

I think that's the only real fear every SC fan should have at this moment, is that the Montreal and Shanghai studios swap each year, so SC: Retribution is - *gulp* - Ubisoft Shanghai's turn! I really hope it isn't....
