Twisted Metal film to be written by Ghost Rider director

Spider-Man, Iron Man producers also on board

Sony Pictures has signed up Brian Taylor, the co-director of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, to write and direct a movie based on classic PlayStation franchise Twisted Metal.

According to Deadline Avi and Ari Arad, the duo attached to many of Marvel's recent movie ventures, will be producing the flick.

The movie adaptation of David Jaffe's vehicular combat game will focus on an underground event that pits people against each other in battles to the death. Naturally, they'll all be trading blows with heavily modified vehicles featuring all manner of destructive weaponry.

The race is run by Calypso, a nutter with an obsession for exploring the human condition. Deadline says Sweet Tooth, "a homicidal clown who drives an ice cream truck" and Doll Face, "a young woman who is trapped behind a porcelain mask and who drives an 18-wheeler", will be among the combatants.

Earlier this month it was revealed that God of War creator David Jaffe was to leave Eat Sleep Play following the development of Twisted Metal on PS3.

AWESOME! I can't wait to not see this!

I know it's not quite in line with the story but I thought I'd share it with you lot anyway:

A guy at work loves the prequel trilogy of Star Wars because 'the effects are better'. He told me that he thought Lucas should re-do them completely with all the CGI he could and with brand new actors and that Mark Wahlberg should play Luke. That was last week.
I haven't been able to pull any other expression other than  since.
