Capcom registers new Darkstalkers trademark

Could this be Yoshinori Ono's next project?

Capcom has given fans of its classic Darkstalkers franchise a bit of hope by registering a new trademark in Japan and Europe.

The fighting game factory's latest title, Street Fighter X Tekken, is scheduled to hit stores in less than a month, essentially freeing up Yoshinori Ono - the producer leading the charge on its fighting game projects - to do something else.

Ono has expressed desires to return to the franchise in the past, so this new trademark could be an indication that he's finally been given the opportunity to. Personally, we'd like to see Capcom Vs SNK 3, or a return to that Alpha franchise, but with the overwhelming amount of Street Fighter related titles already available perhaps Capcom is looking to diversify with Darkstalkers.

Late last year Capcom released PS1 title Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors digitally through the PlayStation Store.
