New PS3 firmware version 4.11 rolls out today

Mandatory European update "improves certain aspects of system software"

Sony is to release a new PS3 firmware update today.

The platform holder didn't fully explain the nature of update (version 4.11), only saying: "This minor firmware improves certain aspects of system software."

Strangely, Sony said the "update is optional in the US and Canada" and "is not mandatory to connect to PSN".

Could it be related to Vita's launch next week? Let us know if you notice any changes once you've downloaded it.

PS3 firmware update v4.10, which launched last week, updated the PS3 internet browser with "improved display speed", and officially renamed PSN accounts Sony Entertainment Network ones.

    Yes we did about 2 weeks ago i think ,, maybe not even that i cant keep track of them now.

    Agree updates are bit of pain in scrotum, but Id start installing your games on 360 too, as preserves your laser.

    Agreed that they should test properly first, but i'm hoping this one is coming along so quickly to fix the last one breakinng the official headphones.

    I hope it does fix them as I was planning on taking mine back this weekend.

    Well mine have been working fine without any problems,wonder why it affects some and not others?

    I agree it'd be handy, although I'm not that bothered. It's just I got lovely Ico/SotC themes and you can barely read the text on the menus at some points!

    They are a bit frequent and I never see any real benefit from them personally, but they only take about ten mins to download and install. The only time they're really annoying is if you've got about thirty minutes to kill and you fancy a quick blast on summat. And that's only happened once to me in about 18 months of owning a PS3.

    All you need to do is turn down the brightness (in the theme / colour) settings and the text can then be read above the background / theme. Simples :wink:

    When I know that there is an update, I switch on my PS3 to do it while I do something else - gives me a chance to see the wife and kids :D

    It's very handy that you can get it to update and then switch itself off afterwards. As long as you aren't gaming online you can have a good session and then get it to do the update when you go to bed or finish. It's really not that bad!
