Stunning Far Cry 3 screens show corrupt island paradise

When holidays on tropical islands go wrong

Ubisoft has released a gorgeous new batch of Far Cry 3 screens.

The shots arrive a day after the publisher launched a new CGI trailer titled 'Stranded' featuring that mental bloke first seen in the original E3 reveal last year. It also confirmed a September 7 UK release date for the Ubi Montreal developed shooter.

"Far Cry 3 players step into the shoes of Jason Brody, a man alone at the edge of the world, stranded on a mysterious tropical island cut off from civilization," Ubi says.

"In this savage paradise where lawlessness and violence are the only sure thing, players will dictate when, where and how the events of the game unfold. Players will slash, sneak, detonate and shoot their way across the island in a world that has lost all sense of right and wrong."

After you've checked out the lush new shots, have a look at this video showcasing two very different tactical approaches to one scenario.

Screenshot 6 scared me as that's pretty much all you saw for about 90% of the 2nd game!

Looking good but I don't want to get my hopes up... I really, really hope they nail it though!

Microsoft and that this will require at least 3 discs to run properly on the 360.

Of course, PC and PS3 gamers won't have that problem.

You do realise those aren't actual in-game screenshots?

Is this the same island from far cry 1?

Seeing as they're very similar to the video showcased last year, and even then it looked good, yeah I'd say they were (on PC at least). They've just maxed out the resolution, pumped up the AA and probably took screens with a framerate around 2fps. I'm not going to say there isn't any PSing trickery going on here, but I paused the video at certain points and compared things. The only difference I could see was the AA, and even then it's hard to see as the video wasn't the highest of quality.

I still recall when people were saying the same thing about the first Far Cry and Crysis. Then when the games came out you could see they were very clearly screens of the game running. Might have taken a while for the hardware to catch up and allow them to be run as they were envisioned, but still.

There's no way it would look that good on consoles though. Not the current gen anyway.
