It's been almost a year since Crysis 2 hit PC and consoles, and to be honest, we're starting to miss having a little voice in our ears constantly telling us how we're so much better than everything else that ever existed.
"Cloak engaged" he says as we go all Predator and fade away into the background. Maximum speed it says as we run up behind an unsuspecting soldier. "Blurrrgh" says the guard as we pretend his head is the lid on a bottle of Coca Cola. What fun.
So with that said, we're getting just a little bit peckish for Crytek's next sci-fi offering. Where will it be set this time? Will our PCs be able to run it? Will there be animals to pick up and throw like the first game? We don't know. We've had a Crytek employee tied up in our basement and pelted with ducks for a month now, but he refuses to talk - much like Crysis 2's protagonist. At least he knows ducks can be effective weapons if thrown hard enough now.
So since EA hasn't announced something concrete we though we'd take the opportunity to list what we'd like to see. Y'know, like we do every week...
A story that we can remember

Perhaps in Crysis 3 we could have a story worth paying attention to, maybe with a likeable main character to root for and some interesting supporting characters. Crysis 2 did have some great set-pieces, but we didn't feel like there was much story linking them together. There was probably was, but as we said - we can't remember it.
The climax was a bit of a disappointment too. We've got faint memories of sneaking past a bunch of enemies in our invisibility cloak and then it just ended. Funnily enough the feeling of satisfaction was also faint.
For the sequel, Crytek might have an easier time crafting an engaging narrative if the game includes...

1. More like Crysis 1! - C2 was a step backward in every way
2. Suit Upgrades that are actually useful.
3. Nomad and Psycho
4. A decent story

So basically CVG, you want Insomniac to make Crysis 3.
What Insomniac did with Resistance 3 is pretty much what you want out of the next Crysis.
Personally, after experiencing both main Crysis games now, all I want is a good story and characters, consistent AI (which when not glitching out is some of the best I've experienced in FPS's this gen) and more varied locations. What they can do with that engine is amazing.
Not really bothered with improving the graphics, it's arguably the finest looking shooter (FPS) on consoles with only Battlefield 3 and Killzone 3 that challenge it on the graphics front.

1. I wish the CELL would not follow the same scripts over and over, that they might learn from what you're doing and adapt, at least a little more. One of my favorite things about Crysis2 was being able to snipe through several levels instead of melee. Lab Rat is one of my favorite levels in the game because you can hide out and snipe all the CELL from various vantage points. But it gets old fast when the CELL just reappear and stand in the exact spot where four dead CELL bodies lie. So I guess, smarter enemies - not just harder to kill, but enemies who learn from how you play and adapt.
2. More sniping weapons in more levels. Seriously, I love to play slow sometimes and just snipe and this game is one of the best for that. I wish I could have had the DSG-1 in more levels.
3. I wish you could somehow see how much damage enemies have taken, particularly the more resilient enemies. If the visor can tell you how aware enemies are of your presence, they should be able to tell you how injured they are.
4. I didn't mind the story at all, but the story is never really the reason I play games. I appreciate that there wasn't a lot of talking in Crysis2.
5. More aliens! The Ceph are some of the coolest alien enemies I've ever played. It will be great to see even more variety.
6. More ability to set traps instead of just melee or snipe. I loved the C4, but it was hard to set good traps because you "lost" it within the level if you didn't use it right away (I couldn't figure out why that happened). Also, more opportunities to use items to kill enemies (like the big donut in one level, and the cement tubes in Lab Rat).
7. The option for the main character to be female. Not a big deal, especially since Alcatraz never talks, but it would have been nice.
8. The tank wasn't much fun to drive when you also have to shoot, although it could be if it wasn't confined to that small stretch of tunnel/covered road. I can't recall what level that was but it was the only one where you both drive and shoot from the vehicle. More vehicle opportunities would be cool. Also - the way Alcatraz aims and shoots enemies in this game works so well, IMO - would be cool to see that with the character in a helicopter gunning down aliens.
9. I would have LOVED the ability to watch certain action plays from a third-person vantage, especially after I mastered the slide-and-shoot. I know some games provide this option - not sure of the technical name for it.
Crysis2 is one of my favorite games. I am really looking forward to any additions to the series.

It needs to be a PC exclusive again. I would accept another console port if it were from next gen consoles.

I would add the ability to jump while running. That made Crysis 2 a real bummer mobility wise.

this article proves that CVG is a graphics whore lol, gameplay every time, you can have the best looking game of all time but without good gameplay you have nothing.

Crysis 2 on my high end PC is a stunning looking game, the multiplayer is pretty good aswell. I would say it almost matches BF3 for visuals. Obviously, this may not be the case on the now ageing consoles. I'd like to see the multiplayer enhanced for C3, more perks, more customisations. Something to keep the interest up. COD multiplayer isn't as good as crysis 2, but COD is more addictive. Make Crysis 3 multiplayer more addictive!

I really enjoyed Crysis 2, in fact it was probably my favourite FPS campaign this gen, and I've got Crysis 1 sitting on my PS3 waiting for me to get into it. I liked the option for various approaches in Crysis 2 a lot, the levels were linear but very wide, so gave you a few options.
But they have to, have to, have to sort the AI out and not allow you to just stealth through the entire game. Although people who complain about this kinda only have themselves to blame, it's like using a glitch in a game and complaining it's too easy. But after all the noise Crytek made about the AI, it was bloody awful.

What would you want in the next Crysis then? Worse graphics?
We know it's fashionable to say "Gameplay over graphics", but understand that developers don't have to pick either good graphics or good gameplay when making a game. It's entirely plausible to have both, as said in the article:
And can you honestly say to me that you'd be perfectly happy if the next-generation consoles came out and were visually worse than this generation's games?
I love fun, engaging gameplay as much as the next guy, but I also want games that look so good they make my jaw drop. It doesn't make someone a graphics whore because they don't want their games to look like arse. Graphics whore is a stupid term anyway - I wish people would stop using it.

Have you played Crysis on PS3?
It's clear why they chose to use open levels for Crysis 2 over the open world sandbox of Crysis, the PS3 struggles to run Crysis with constant noticeable framerate dips.
I know Crysis is known for it graphics but from my experience, on PS3, they can't push graphics much further without it affecting the gameplay.
Push the graphics next gen, push everything else now.
JD_Method on 21 Feb '12 said:
I haven't, no. I guess what you said makes sense though.
I was just responding to the guy who was throwing about the term "graphics-whore" simply because CVG stated they wanted better visuals in the article... after five points wishing for better gameplay additions.
Is it wrong to wish for a better looking game? I don't think it is.
TheLastDodo on 21 Feb '12 said:
Absolutely not.
I'd just rather they improve the story and gameplay first, the Crysis games are among the very best, graphically, on consoles so there's no need, in my opinion, to push Crysis 3 that way.
If they can push graphics further without gameplay taking a hit then go for it, who wouldn't want that?

I like the game, but I can't find out how to upgrade my suit. Does anybody out there know how I can get this upgraded. I am on the 15 chapter but now I need it bad.
TheLastDodo on 24 Feb '12 said:
Hey.
When you kill one of the regular aliens it should leave this sparkly substance behind (can't remember actual name), run over it to collect it, you upgrade your suit by collecting this sparkly substance.
The bigger aliens drop bigger quantities of this substance.
Make sure you collect it asap as I think it disappears after a certain time.

Simple. Better AI. In Crysis 2 the AI could be amazing. Then you go round a corner and the enemy is standing looking at a wall. Not intrested if you are there or not.

If they are going to make Crysis 3, then for the love of god, MAKE IT LIKE CRYSIS 1, I want that free-roamish idea that Crysis 1 had, you HAVE to do the mission, but you can do it however you want, running around the map exploring. That was the best part about Crysis 1!

it would be nice if Crytek put in a cover mechanic, I loved playing the games stealthily, but I can't count the number of times that I was pulled into an unnecessary fire-fight because some guy saw me hiding, sticking out ever so slightly from some cover whilst I was waiting for my energy to recharge so I can re-stealth,

My pretty much only problem with Crysis 2 was the annoying lack of energy.
I got Crysis on SEN(formely PSN) yesterday and finished it today, awesome game.
Energy in that is pretty decent, still kind of low...but way WAY better than 2...
In 2 if you pick up a paper cup and power throw it, that's all your energy depleted, what the hell?
I don't think we need a Nanosuit 3.0 but at least a 2.5 with a greater energy capacity, maybe the alien spire thing at the end upgraded it, whatever.
You're not a formidable enough foe I feel in a Call of Duty game you're just the same except there's no invisibility.
The main character needs to stand out more, like in the trailer for Crysis we need to be able to flip cars over that are coming at us, but be able to apply that strength to many more objects not just set things like doors, walls etc etc.
I disagree with it being PC exclusive, not everybody can afford a top notch computer that can run it.
Unfair to bring it next gen consoles and take it away when most of the profit was probably for PS3.
I'm not too bothered about going to space or an alien planet, we seen that in the first game essentially.
One last thing, a co-op story mode would be awesome.

Destructible environments----I want mayhem when it helps me progress through the story and I want to create it, not observe it in set pieces. It helps the suspension of disbelief and, frankly, it's just plain cool. I guess this continues to be the Holy Grail of shooters, IMO.
