Slick PSN game takes on Twisted Metal

Unreal-powered vehicle combat title, Wheels of Destruction, wants a fight

Brave move, hyping a vehicular combat game right on top of the launch of Twisted Metal - the behemoth franchise of the genre.

But that's exactly what indie dev Gelid Games has chosen to do with its PSN-exclusive title, Wheels of Destruction. And you know what? It looks pretty sweet.

Unreal Engine-based WoD looks to take on an even more aggressively arcade, fast-paced style than Twisted Metal, with futuristic-looking cars and environments, laser guns and over-the-top physics that have cars leaping high into the air.

The game also uses a "unique control scheme built around controlling the vehicle with a single analog stick," which the developer says will make it easy to play (which is good to hear considering the somewhat convoluted controls for the latest Twisted Metal).

It may be the underdog, but we like the look of WoD. There's no release date yet but the developer says "the game is almost here".
