Icarus is a part of Greek mythology, he created wings out of wax and feathers and flew away but the wax melted and he drowned. So Kid Icarus is his child, or something.

That would be nice, and I'm still waiting for a decent game that uses a bit more of Greek mythology (could this be the one?), but Icarus was a boy himself when he took a tumble and spent a good chunk of his life prior to that in prison - so no time for children!

Pit (the hero) is actually the illegitimate son of goddess Palutena and Captain Falcon. Trufax.
