Sony Japan is said to have introduced a Vita cash back offer in a move to drive sales of the 3G version of the handheld.
Last week, Amazon Japan started offering 2,000 yen (£16) to those that buy a 3G Vita and at least one game, Andriasang reports.
While a major retailer offering such a deal isn't out of the ordinary, the site says the campaign - which started on February 15 and will run until March 31 - will be extended to multiple smaller stores from February 23 under instruction from Sony.
According to reports, early 3G Vita sales didn't hit market expectations, prompting some Japanese retailers to introduce their own discounts on the hardware less than a month after release.
Vita sales dropped to a new weekly low in Japan during the seven days ended February 12.
