Take-Two trademarks 'GTA TV' and 'Rockstar TV'

GTA-themed TV programming on the way?

Rockstar parent Take-Two has trademarked 'GTA TV' and 'Rockstar TV', possibly hinting at extensive trans-media promotion for Grand Theft Auto V.

Could we see some GTA-themed TV programming released leading up to and around the game's launch? Some sort of promotional web series? Your guess is as good as ours.

The trademarks (via OXM) cover a wide range of possibilities, with listings mentioning "computer game programs and software; animated motion picture films featuring entertainment, namely, action, adventure, dramatic, comedic, children's and documentary themes; pre-recorded video discs and other pre-recorded digital and electronic media in the field of live action programs, motion pictures, or animation featuring entertainment, namely, action, adventure, dramatic, comedic, children's and documentary themes."

Earlier this month Take-Two said that GTA V is "making great progress" and that we can expect to hear more about the game in the coming months.

I imagine it will just be like Uncharted TV. A little box in the bottom corner with 'plays of the week' and stuff.

Christ I spent literally minutes of my life watching the dross on the TV in the GTA games. Those are minutes I will never get back.

This is what I'm thinking also. It's a nice feature to have.

This makes a lot of sense. If you remember not long after Red Dead Redemption was released Rockstar put together a film, The Man from Blackwater directed by John Hillcoat (The Proposition, The Road). Although half of that film was made up of in-game cut scenes, the other half was created specificity for the film to maintain the cinematic feel through sections that would have been game play. It would seem that Rockstar were testing the water for something a bit bigger and this could well be it. Obviously every other major franchise have plans for making a big budget Hollywood film (Halo, Dead Space, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Uncharted, Resistance, Metal Gear Solid etc) but Rockstar games themselves tend to lean more heavily on the codes and conventions of film genres much more than those traditionally associated with video games, such as thrillers, westerns, spy films and film noir and Rockstar have never had any intention to go out and do the big budget route. So the idea of Rockstar creating films and TV content using in game assets is brilliant, partially because it can enhance the story of the game without altering the medium. GTA has had numerous people in the last few years create some really interesting machinima, I recommend Mastermind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdRZyeSL4Mo.

I want this game. Or at the very least a little more information about this game. It's all Max Paynes fault.

Think I'll have to dig out my old GTA4 and have a spin around the city tonight, see how everyone is keeping... :)

Liberty City is really boring compared to San Andreas.. all city and no countryside :(

They made the right choice skipping VC to SA, lets hope they do a well made port to PC at the same time and have a nice online mode.

San Andreas MP mod is really fun i just can't understand why R* fail to deliver quality in that aspect.
