Sony Computer Entertainment UK managing director Fergal Gara has suggested that cross-platform play between PS3 and Vita will become a major focus for the platform holder in due course.

"And I think it's very important for the PlayStation brand, because the story we're not really hammering hard at this early stage, in order to keep it fairly simple, is the whole cross-play story - something which is powerful today, and will become more and more so as the developers get to grips with its possibilities.
"It's what I call a better-together story," Gara added. "The PlayStation 3 and PS Vita are each other's best accessories. MotorStorm RC is probably one of the best examples of where, for less than a fiver, you get the console edition and the portable edition. So really, we're packing a lot of value and the whole PlayStation ethos into that title."
We also asked Sony whether it's true that playing PS3 games on the PS Vita via Remote Play has been blocked.
"We haven't blocked it," said Jonathan Fargher, senior PR manager for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. "We showed the Killzone camera, streaming games to the PS Vita, but regarding that specific feature, we'll be making more announcements in the near future. As you know, PS3 firmware updates add new functions all the time.
Gara said: "I think we're getting our heads around what it is we want people to be able to do, and what we should promote. With or without that remote access, I think there's a huge amount in cross-play that remains to be explored.
"We haven't said very much at all about how the best accessory for the PS3 is the PS Vita, and vice-versa, but there's more to come and we expect that to build. We wanted to keep the message simple at the start, which is: this is the best version of console gaming you can ever take on the move with you."

Sounds like they want to push crossplay but are backing down on remote play?

trying to get a head start on Wii U - too bad Nintendo will pull it off 100 times better.

How many PS bosses are there? Sony are putting on a false smile. The Vita price has been front loaded to make way for a price drop. The hardcore buy at launch, then there's a typical sales dive. Handheld consoles will always do well, but not at silly prices, the 3DS was a prime example. I've got enough stuff to keep me going, so I'll wait for the price drop, but then there's the Wii U this year.

Are you suggesting the vita is overpriced so sony could lower it later?

Seriously Sony, was the barefaced cheek in which you quickly launched Move on the market to stand on the shoulders of the Wii/Nintendo not enough, then the fact even that failed so horribly as you weren't able to launch the software to go with it only compounded the greed and shame. I own a PS3 having picked one up at launch and have since played numerous very good games on it, but don't Sony try to compete with what Nintendo do best, that being giving us innovative and fun products polished to perfection, history has shown you only "fail".

I always thought Nintendo fans were the least angry and mental of the whole fanboy movement. They seemed to be older and happy enough with their good exclusive games. Sadly these recent Vita stories have shown they're just as sad and insecure as the rest. Full grown men resorting to writing rage filled bile in every story they see.
We all share the same hobby. Grow up and start enjoying it instead of throwing childish tantrums over something you claim to not be interested in.

Well said. For a console they've no interest in they sure as hell spend a lot of time posting about it.

Totally agree. There's a lot of silly immaturity on these boards.
On another note, if Sony back track on remote Play I will be FURIOUS. As a dad with a young family, it just isn t that easy to sit down in front of a ps3. I bought my vita today on the promise of remote play to come. They'd better not let me down!!!!

Ok I hate to sound negative as I think the Vita is a great machine, but where are all the games announcements?! Apart from Bioshock, there has been little to bugger all announcements. The 3DS has Kingdom Hearts, Monster Hunter 4, Luigi's Mansion 2 & Kid Icarus coming & that's just off the top of my head. And more 3DS games are being announced almost every 2nd day it seems, yet it seems fairly quiet on the Vita side....
Im not trying to upset any Sony fans out there, I have a ps3 & hope to have a Vita myself soon. But if we have to wait until e3 to hear about the next must have Vita titles, then poor form!

Thirded. In this very thread we have Chris and Higgins being pathetic. The mods. had a big "fanboy purge" not so long ago: time for another one?
On-topic, I'm not terribly impressed by trying to use one to sell the other at this early stage, especially when the Vita is being marketed as a mini-PS3.

Sorry, but I don't believe I am being pathetic, besides, I picked up my Wii at launch - yes, I'm a Nintendo "fan boy" if thats what you want to label me - and for roughly 5 years have had to put up with people constantly mocking it for not being "hardcore" (LOL) enough, being aimed at kids and grandmothers AND not being relevant. This gen I have owned a Wii, PS3 (still do, again, another console I picked up at launch) and 360 (now traded), yet it is with the Wii I have enjoyed myself most, both being constantly surprised AND entertained. Sure, the PS3 is a console I have enjoyed owning, games such as the Fifa series, Batman (Arkham City & Asylum) and Killzone 2 offering me masses amount of entertainment BUT it is with the Wii I have been most able to totally submerge myself. Put it this way...a handful of games on the PS3 for me have been truly great, another handful on the Wii have for me been masterpieces.

SONY stop messing around and give us Remote Play now... You will make my wife very happy (so she can watch her soaps while I play my PS 3 games remotely) and if my wife is happy so AM I.

some clarity on this would be great. as i was sat on the train today playing geometry wars on my iphone i wanted two thumbsticks so much i would have paiud £200 for them there and then....
ok, probably not, but if i KNEW i would be able to play pretty much all my PS3 games over my home wifi system while the missus watches TV, i would buy a vita in a heart-beat....
in fact, she would probably buy it for me.

They probably don't work on remote play as much as they should because there isn't much money in it. They should realize that that would make more people buy a vita.

And the bolded point is why you should stay the hell out of Sony threads unless you have something nice to say. Your viewpoint is completely biased, and therefore of no interest to anyone other than yourself.
I'm not saying you're not "hardcore". I've only ever owned Wii consoles, and I consider that completing Donkey Kong Country Returns makes me plenty hard of core enough. But if you will persistently present your biased, uninteresting opinions on non-Nintendo consoles... well, anywhere, then you are being pathetic.
You want to prove me wrong? Make your opinion one to be valued. For your next five posts which mention Sony at all, your Sony points have to be in support of the company, their consoles or their games. There's plenty to like about what they're doing, just as there's plenty to dislike. They have to be sensible, valid points, and not repeated. Until then, be quiet, please.

Cross platform play and buy one get both versions is a must for Vita, looks like they're delivering already on both fronts. I bought Motorstorm RC and it's a great little game, ranked #1 on a few of the levels so that's nice. Be warned it's addictive, I was up until 4AM trying to beat other peoples times and woke up the old man during the process.
