Far Cry 3 is going to be massive, and freer than its predecessors, yet its open world will have more purpose.

"The open world was cool, it was great, but it never quite comes to anything," he said of FC2. "It's kind of left open and you just get a bit lost in it. We're trying to make sure we don't end up in that situation. It's important that it has that sense of exploration, but it needs to be getting towards something."
But players shouldn't worry about this newfound focus restricting their freedom. "It's important that you have that sense that you can do something because you want to. You're always enabled by the game," he said.
"We don't want you to feel like you're being blocked by the world. If you want to travel quickly somewhere, you can do it. If you want to just drive around, you can do that too. If you want to jump off that cliff - you can do that too. We want it to be a situation where you say, 'Wouldn't it be cool if... Oh! I can!' It's always about enabling. That's really important for us."
Keen said the malaria mechanic, for example, was cool to some who appreciated the realism, but admitted, "I think most people found it frustrating."
"There are points where we make you do something to pull them along, but we want to make sure we're not contriving situations too much," he added.
Who's excited?

If the enemies respawn every time you turn your back I will be avoiding this.

Keeping an eye on this, looks really good so far.

I agree. That was the reason I traded in Far Cry 2. I got bored with having to kill the same enemies every 2 minutes.

I'm hoping that it won't feel repetitive and shallow like it did in FC2 after you play for few hours.

This.
It was an utter joke in 2. That and getting rammed off the road by the ever attacking jeeps that the enemies could turn into 80mph tanks.

Far Cry 2 was quite disappointing, but I like the new direction they're taking with the sequel.

That's according to the game's lead designer Jamie Keen, who talked with IGN about how the developer has learned from Far Cry 2 and improved on it for the sequel.

Very nice graphic job by Crytek (please be so creative in the gameplay too). I hope it will be such great game as Far Cry 1 was (and still is).

Wasn't just the Malaria that was a drag in FC2, the guns jammimg when you started any firefight was bloody annoying as hell, if guns are that unreliable in RL then why do people bother with them.

Far Cry 3 is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, not Crytek.
1Nightmare1 on 25 Feb '12 said:
He's talking about the engine that powers the game. Crytek makes graphic engines...
TheLastDodo on 25 Feb '12 said:
Yes I'm aware of that.
Ubisoft Montreal have done a nice job with the graphics.

where can I begin?
One of the best FPS games of all time, moody, atmospheric, menacing, open range, total killer games of all time, please give us more of the same. I CANNOT wait for Far Cry 3.

I liked the exploration aspect of Far Cry 1, as well as the way that you were able to approach combat situations in a variety of ways. Hopefully FC3 will allow us to think through problems in this way. Looks interesting.

I wish all games would stop being linear and go sandbox, that's what people want nowadays, explore and play the game how they want to.

It's still your average FPS brown&bloom shooter. I do not expect anything good out of this. This genre has been beat to death.

I was A huge fan of the the first games, even tho FC2 ditched the Sci-fi aspect. (they could have called it something else?) Yes FC2 had its problems, would have been nice if not everybody wanted your ass on the end of a machete every 5mins! Gun jam could have happened a little less often. The map making was AWESOME(check my maps out if you wish, "Rumble in the jungle" is quite nice I think!) BUT WHAT THE HECK are all these numbers popping off of peoples heads as they are killed! (RPG system?) You spend so long and put so much effort into creating a REAL WORLD and then put HUGE numbers and BIG flashing red arrows all over the screen that imediately take me out of the experiance. This is a moan at ALL DEVELOPERS, give us options to turn this crap off! I know X picks up objects, I dont need to be reminded every time I look at an item and dont get me started on FLASHING weapons...arggggggggggh! graphics have reached the stage where guns look like guns, ammo looks like ammo etc I dont need it to flash. Anyway I loved how FC2 kept you in the game by keeping most things in the FPS view, ie handheld map, wrist**tch etc, another game i love for this is Metro 2033, awesome game! So if these numbers popping off people are staying or cant be turned off I might have to leave it alone, let It run in the background or show up somewhere more discretely!
Chow.

Far Cry 2 was a bloody joke of a game, Christ knows how a developer can get so many thing wrongs in just one game. whoever thought Malaria would make a good game mechanic needs to be shot with one of the games p**s poor weapons, then they can re-spawn about 2 seconds after.

are you joking? the gun jamming was quality, put me on edge in close firefights and disuaded me from running and gunning into situations. i say keep it. at the end of the day, it was african malicia, they are hardly going to have shiny new guns in direct from heckler and koch or remington, are they?
the malaria thing was a tad annoying, as too was the fact every mission of friend options were a million miles from where you pick up the mission or have to go to complete it so i guess they've fixed that. checkpoint outposts were not too bad, i'd only pass one quickly to get to my destination, not go in circles near them like a lemon so if ye suffered the 2 minute respawn its your own fault for not reading the map!
cant wait for this, it sounds better and better in each article
lonewolf2002 on 26 Feb '12 said:
Erm no I am not, guns jamming occasionaly I can live with but when they jammed just about every fire fight, then not for me. Glad you enjoyed that aspect to it, just for me too bloody annoying.

Checkpoint respawning, what a pain in the ass - took all the fun out of the game! If they put anything like that in the new game, I'll pass.
