Nintendo wins in Balance Board patent battle

"We refuse to succumb to patent trolls," says Nintendo

Nintendo has been victorious in its latest patent infringement battle surrounding its Wii Balance Board peripheral.

The firm was taken to court by IA Labs CA, who alleged that the Wii Balance Board accessory and Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus software infringed on one of its patents.

But a Maryland U.S. District Court judge has dismissed lawsuit, putting Nintendo in the clear.

This is the latest in a string of lawsuits brought against Nintendo. In the past year alone, Nintendo was sued for its Wii Remote twice, and once for the glasses-free 3D tech inside the 3DS.

"Nintendo has a passionate tradition of developing innovative products while respecting the intellectual property rights of others," said the firm following its recent court victory.

"We vigorously defend patent lawsuits when we firmly believe that we have not infringed another party's patent. We refuse to succumb to patent trolls," it added.
