BioWare's Montreal studio was working on a Mass Effect first-person shooter spin-off called Mass Effect Team Assault, it's emerged.
The game, which was worked on for just four months in 2010, eventually became the third-person multiplayer component of Mass Effect 3, US journo Geoff Keighley's new behind-the-scenes iPad app reveals.
"The goal was simple," Keighley reports in The Final Hours of Mass Effect 3 (via Kotaku), "to create a standalone multiplayer experience in the Mass Effect universe that would mix the play styles of Unreal Tournament and Battlefield 1943 - and likely be released as a downloadable game."
As the BioWare developers shifted to Mass Effect 3, Mass Effect Team Assault "was put on the back burner." Will we ever see it again?
