BioWare backtracks on 'we won't change Mass Effect 3 ending' statement

Dev assures fans it's listening

BioWare has dropped hints it could still change the controversial Mass Effect 3 ending, assuring fans this weekend it's "paying attention" to feedback and taking it into consideration.

Over the weekend the dev indicated it has no plans to change the ending via its social media feeds. The statements have since been deleted and BioWare's community manager, Jessica Merizan, has moved to officially respond to concerns from fans.

"Someone misspoke on our Mass Effect channel. We're still gathering feedback to create content that keeps it in mind. Thx 4 understanding :)" she said on Twitter.

The backlash to the original statement was so severe that studio followed up by posting an official statement on its Facebook page.

"We are aware that there are concerns about a recent post from this account regarding the ending of the game. In this post it was stated that at this time we do not have plans to change the ending," it opened.

"We would like to clarify that we are actively and seriously taking all player feedback into consideration and have ruled nothing out. At this time we are still collecting and considering your feedback and have not made a decision regarding requests to change the ending.

"Your feedback and opinions are of the utmost importance to us. We apologize for any confusion this has caused. Our top priority regarding this discussion is to keep communication with you, our loyal fans, open and productive."

Fans have been vocal in their dislike of the ending, going so far as to launch a 'Retake Mass Effect 3' campaign that raised $30,000 for gaming charity Child's Play in just 24 hours.

In our reader Mass Effect 3 ending poll 86% of respondents said they feel BioWare blew the ending. However, the game's director, Casey Hudson, recently defended the controversial Mass Effect 3 ending.
