Grabs the attention of Hollywood producers

For just a small company of around 25 employees, Mojang isn't doing too bad. Financial reports say Minecraft has pulled in $80 million in revenue - or around £50.16m - since its October 2010 launch.

That's according to The Financial Times, which says the game is approaching 25 million downloads, with over 5 million having forked out for the full-price game. Earning before tax sit at $13.5m.

It's not just the game that's making bank though, and it's reported that merchandise has also done around $1 million for the firm, which is nothing to sniff at.

The majority of Mojang's business is on PC, but the firm has also achieved success on smartphones having recently announced a million copies of its miniature Minecraft: Pocket Edition sold.

And all these dollar signs have snagged the attention of Hollywood. "We've been approached by a number of high-profile Hollywood producers and asked to do TV shows," said Carl Manneh, Mojang's chief executive.

"We may do that," he told FT (via Joystiq), teasing, "It's hard when you don't have any experience and someone comes to throw these ideas around. ... But if the right idea comes along and the right people that we'd want to work with, we'd say why not?"
