Sega has confirmed that its long awaited MMO sequel, Phantasy Star Online 3, will take on the widely-adopted free-to-play model.
While the game will be free to play, Sega will earn its Benjamins from an 'item transaction system' that will, predictably, have users paying for certain items in the game.
Having recently announced a Vita version of the game (alongside PC), Sega has added two more platforms to the list - iOS and Android.
While the PC and Vita versions will be like-for-like and offer cross platform play, the Smartphone versions will be a different, simpler game with 'social elements'.
While the smartphone games will offer cross platform play between them, they won't connect with the PC and Vita versions.
The PC version will be out in Spring, with the mobile version to follow in Autumn. Vita will come last in Spring 2013.
