Angry Birds developer expands with new Swedish studio

"2012 is going to be a big year in gaming for us"

Angry Birds creator Rovio Entertainment has announced plans to expand to Sweden by opening a new development studio in Stockholm.

The company is currently seeking a general manager for the new office and plans to hire 20-30 staff within a year.

"2012 is going to be a big year in gaming for us, and we're constantly on the lookout for great new talent," said Petri Järvilehto, Rovio's executive vice president of games. "We're excited to expand to Stockholm and work in one of Europe's gaming and innovation hotspots."

Earlier this week Rovio acquired Finnish developer Futuremark Games Studio, creator of PC zero gravity FPS Shattered Horizon and iPad, PC and Mac title Unstoppable Gorg.

Angry Birds Space, which launched on March 22, was downloaded over ten million times in less than three days.
