Draw Something is adding advertisers' paid words into the game for players to literally draw brands.
The move came after Zynga tested recognisable brand terms like Nike, KFC and Doritos in the iOS and Android game and found them to be really popular.
Dan Porter, Zynga's VP of mobile and general manager for its New York office, told Ad Age: "People loved to draw the Colonel and bags of Doritos."
The National Hockey League is one of the first advertisers to buy terms including puck, hat trick and slap shot.
Draw Something has been downloaded more than 50 million times, although it has seen a fairly dramatic drop in player numbers in recent weeks. Between April 2 and May 2, its daily active user count fell from approximately 14.3 million people to 10.4 million.
