Company of Heroes 2 first screenshot is exploding with detail

Relic Entertainment's sequel is officially announced

THQ has officially announced the sequel to the critically acclaimed PC RTS Company of Heroes and released the first screenshot of the game.

Canadian studio Relic Entertainment is once again handling development duties, having wrapped up work on the excellent Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2 and so-so shooter Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine.

The game was first revealed last week in the latest issue of PC Gamer, which shared info on a new version of the Essence engine, a gameplay mechanic called 'True Sight' and much more.

"Company of Heroes 2 is a true successor, introducing a new front, new protagonists and new technology while retaining the unique mix of strategic gameplay and competitive multiplayer that made the original Company of Heroes such a success," Greg Wilson, a producer at Relic, has said.

"We are excited to announce a sequel to one of THQ's best loved properties. Company of Heroes 2 will deliver an amazing strategy experience along with a strong post-launch digital content plan that enhances and expands the product's lifecycle," added Danny Bilson, THQ's executive VP of core game.

According to Relic CoH2 will move away from World War 2's frequently explored Western Front to refocus on "some of history's most brutal and devastating conflicts on the Eastern Front."

From the looks of the screenshot players are in for some intense RTS action. We can't wait.
