The first screenshots for Kingdoms of Amalur developer 38 Studios' Project Copernicus have emerged online.
According to 38 Watch, the fansite which posted them, they show off three of the MMO's playable races, Almain, Dverga and Jottun.
They follow the release of the game's debut trailer earlier this week, but while Copernicus certainly looks full of promise you'd be wise not to get too excited by it just yet. The game, which shares the land of Amalur with 38 Studios' recent RPG, is currently scheduled for release in June 2013, but that's assuming the developer can overcome its current financial troubles.
Last week the company failed to pay employees, as well as to make the first repayment of a $49 million loan it received from the state of Rhode Island. In the end it did make the $1.125 million loan repayment, but its future looks unclear. 38 Studios is due to make another $2.6 million payment in November, and then pay $12.6 million in 2013.
According to a WPRI report yesterday, 38 Studios CEO Jen MacLean and senior vice president of product development John Blakel have followed a number of recently terminated employees in exiting the company. Things aren't looking rosy for the studio or Copernicus, but we can hope.
