Jagex to axe 'underperforming' MMO 8Realms

UK studio 'poised for redundancies', report claims

The MMO 8Realms is set to go offline after developer Jagex admitted that the game's popularity is weaker than expected.

Abolishing the game will result in a number of redundancies at the studio, it has been claimed.

Industry insiders told trade publication Develop that 8Realms, which was a free-to-play title, had accumulated just a tenth of its active user target. The game has been in beta for around a year.

It is not known how many developers at the Cambridge studio are affected by the move. It is believed some will continue at the studio on different projects.

Daniel Clough, the studio's chief operating officer, said "it has become clear that the game does not meet our high expectations for success".
