Homefront 2 'isolated' from THQ troubles, says Crytek

Restructuring has had 'zero' impact on development, CEO claims

The dramatic restructuring of struggling publisher THQ has had "zero" impact on the development of Homefront 2 at Crytek, CEO Cevat Yerli has told CVG.

In recent months the California-based publisher has undergone a sweeping layoff operation while a number of high-profile executives, including core games boss Danny Bilson, have departed from the company.

But according to Yerli, there's been "no tangible change whatsoever" in Crytek's arrangement with the publisher.

Last year THQ commissioned Crytek to build the successor to its military FPS Homefront. The original game was developed at New York outfit Koas Studios, which THQ closed down last year.

Asked in an E3 interview what effect THQ's troubles have had on Homefront 2, Yerli replied: "Pretty much zero. There's been no tangible change whatsoever. There have been a few meetings and the introduction of people and those meetings are always very transparent."

He added: "To be fair, the way we're developing Homefront 2 is very isolated anyway. We're treating it as our own new IP and at the same time THQ is respecting us and saying, 'you guys know what you're doing' and telling us the story they'd like to have, which we're collaborating creatively on."

Homefront 2 is being handled by Crytek's Nottingham-based UK studio (formerly Free Radical), which most recently worked on Crysis 2's multiplayer component.

According to its announcement press release, Homefront 2 will "benefit from the very latest CryENGINE technology".
