Valve has quietly added a new 'Steam Badges' feature to the digital PC service rewarding users for using Steam itself.
'Badges' essentially appear to be achievements, like those you would usually earn within supported games - but these are offered for performing tasks within the Steam client.
A 'Steam Community' Badge, for example, is awarded when a user completes a list of tasks including commenting on a friend's profile, posting a video or rating an item in the Workshop.
There are also retroactive badges for having taken part in past events such as the Steam Holiday Sale 2011.
Check it out on your profile page to the right in a new 'Steam Badges' box below the 'Actions' box.
