Separate licensing agreement required to include Glasgow club

EA Sports says it's made "no decision" on whether to pursue a separate licensing agreement required to include Glasgow Rangers in FIFA 13.

Last week administration forced the Glasgow club's new company, Rangers Newco, to the bottom of the Scottish Third Division, amid suggestions the controversial relegation could cause many licensees to cancel their Scottish Premier League contracts.

Speaking to our colleagues at Nintendo Gamer, an EA Sports spokesperson confirmed FIFA 13 will still include the SPL along with its yet-to-be-decided 12th team, but Ranger's future in the football game series seems less certain.

A spokesperson said: "We have a licensing agreement with the Scottish Premier League. We have discussed the league structure with them and we will take their direction regarding the 12th club. FIFA 13 will be in retail stores beginning September 28 - after the start of the SPL season - so we have the flexibility to align with the authentic league structure.

"As far as Glasgow Rangers are concerned, we have not made a decision at this time on whether we will pursue a separate licensing agreement to include them in FIFA 13."

FIFA 13 is due for release in Europe on September 28 along with a bumper Ultimate Edition.
