Fight Night studio EA Canada will develop Electronic Arts' first UFC game.
Fight Night Round 3 "showed the world what a next-gen sports game was capable of", EA says (we have to agree with that), and the boxing title's lead gameplay designer will also head up gameplay design on EA Sports UFC.
The development team will be lead by EA's Team and Action Sports general manager Dean Richards (Fight Night, NHL, SSX) and creative director Brian Hayes, who was in charge of gameplay design on Fight Night Round 4 and Fight Night Champion.
Hayes said: "For me personally, the UFC is something that I grew up with. I remember watching the first UFC events when I was a teenager and it's amazing to see how they have evolved and flourished.
"Ultimately, we're huge fans, we think we have a great team and we are really excited to be taking on this new challenge. We look forward to bringing the UFC video game experience to new heights."
The publisher has yet to announce target platforms or a launch window for EA Sports UFC, but THQ holds the right to publish console and mobile UFC titles until March 31, 2013.
