Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn announced with trailer

FF XIV version 2.0 rebranded, built "from the ground up" for PC and PS3

Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, the new name for FF XIV version 2.0.

Last October the publisher confirmed plans to give troubled MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV a complete overhaul following a botched release. The new product will be A Realm Reborn.

Square says: "This adventure has been rebuilt from the ground up, and centers on the core concept of rebirth, featuring a new world to explore and storyline to experience.

It also promises "visually-stunning graphics and game design that appeal to both Windows PC and PS3 players". Today's announcement included no new details on PS3 launch timing.

Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida said: "Since announcing our plans for the future of the title last October, we have been working tirelessly to include all of the elements that we have promised in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

"This new title not only becomes a symbol of a completely new Final Fantasy XIV, but also marks the beginning of a new stage as the latest title in the Final Fantasy series. I hope you're looking forward to it."

Square has also launched a new website dedicated to A Realm Reborn, offering background information on the realm of Eorzea, its inhabitants and the much larger world of Hydaelyn.
