Activision profits sink 45% as sales slow

Black Ops 2 publisher reports jump in operating costs and a 45% cut in earnings

Activision Blizzard brought in more than $1 billion in sales for the three month period ending in June.

The final calculation of $1.075 billion was better than expected to the tune of about $75 million. However, in the same period last year Activision brought in $1.146 billion, marking a 6.2 per cent year-on-year revenue decline.

Profits fell further, down to $185 million during the quarter, and about 45 per cent less than the $335 million made in the same period last year.

Activision did not cite softened demand for its products during its financial report to investors. The company did reveal, however, that operating costs were $848 million for the quarter, up significantly on last year ($679m).

Digital sales came in at $343 million, which is about a third of total sales.
