Id Software has closed its mobile games operation having released two major iPhone projects, the company's co-founder has said.
John Carmack said at a press conference on Thursday that his team ceased making iOS games due to other priorities.
"It saddened me a lot to because I loved doing the mobile work," he said.
"It was fun, it was fun for the company, it makes money but it's not a grand slam sort of thing," he added.
"I do hope we get back to mobile in various ways in the future, but the big, real aim is blockbuster triple-A titles. For Id, that means Doom 4."
Carmack made the remarks at the opening keynote of Quakecon; Id Software's annual conference for PC developers and enthusiasts.
He added that some of the mobile games team were brought on to the Doom 4 project.
The news coincides with a new discount offer on two Id Software games for iOS. Rage HD and Doom Resurrection are now both on offer for £0.99/$0.99.
