Writer of the Batman Arkham series will not return for a third installment

Paul Dini says goodbye to Rocksteady and Warner Interactive

Paul Dini, the writer responsible for Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, has announced he will not be working with Rocksteady or Warner Interactive in the event of a third Arkham game.

Paul Dini explained in a blog post, that his time with Rocksteady and Warner Interactive has come to an end, but "if [they] wind up working together again at some point, that would be cool, too."

Responsible for writing two of the best Batman games ever, Paul Dini has announced his schedule is booked "with a number of other projects, leaving [him] unavailable to take on anything new until 2013."

When Dini approached Warner Interactive and Rocksteady asking about a third game in the series, he was told "it would be a while before everyone was ready to sit down and discuss future plans," and "it was intimated that for future games, Warner and Rocksteady might not be looking as much to freelance writers, the message being, that if I had something else interesting coming my way, I might want to take it."

Taking the advice, Dini booked other projects for himself, and after hearing of the DLC Harley Quinn's Revenge, and the rumoured prequel to the Arkham series, he "figured they had filled their writer needs."

The tone of Dini's blog does not come across as spiteful or bitter, he is simply letting fans know he will not be a part of a third game in the series, if Rocksteady decides to make one.

Dini expresses his gratitude saying, "it was fun working with Warners and Rocksteady on the first two Arkham games and I am grateful to them both for a tremendous experience. Rocksteady has a great crew of artists and storytellers, and it was exciting and enlightening for me to be part of that team."
