Plants Vs Zombie creator laid off from PopCap - report

George Fan let go after PvZ2 announcement

George Fan, the creator of the insanely popular (and dangerously addictive) game Plants Vs Zombies, has reportedly been laid off from PopCap.

According to an unconfirmed 1Up report, Fan was among those affected by yesterday's confirmed layoffs, which is especially shocking considering the recent announcement of Plants Vs Zombies 2.

PopCap confirmed yesterday that it had axed about fifty jobs from its Seattle studio as part of an effort, according to studio co-founder John Vechey, to reorganise its development team due to the fast-moving changes in the mobile games market.

PopCap was acquired by Electronic Arts in July 2011 in a deal worth at least $650 million, yet Vechey insisted that "the decision to reorganise was 100 per cent made by us, with no pressure from EA".
