Major League Gaming has regrettably announced that the top two teams of the Summer Championships, Curse NA and Team Dignitas, have been stripped of their prizes due to collusion between the two teams.
MLG and League of Legends developers Riot, are in agreement with stripping the final two teams of the title and prize money.
The official statement reads: "MLG regrets to announce that we will not be awarding 1st or 2nd Place finishes for the Summer Championship League of Legends Event...This is in clear violation of both the letter and spirit of MLG's Official Pro Circuit Conduct Rules: 'competitors may not intentionally Forfeit a Game or conspire to manipulate Rankings or Brackets."
Fans and spectators are divided on whether the teams actually violated rules, with some adamant that neither team appeared to throw the match, or forfeit.
Both teams decided to play the first round of the final match in 'All Random, All Mid' style, which is not the conventional method of League of Legends gameplay, however there doesn't seem to be any evidence of collusion.
When PC Gamer reached out to MLG to find out if the ruling was due to the style they chose to play, or if there was more evidence of match fixing and collusion, a spokespeson replied that they have "no additional detail to share beyond the statement."
Regardless, Curse NA have released a video apologising to the fans, MLG and Riot.
