Bethesda: Prey 2 hasn't been cancelled

But publisher reiterates that the sequel "is not coming out this year"

Bethesda VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines has denied reports he confirmed Prey 2's cancellation in a recent interview.

Referring to comments he made in a chat with IGN Benelux, Hines said: "To clarify, I didn't say Prey 2 was canx. Gave an interview in English, translated to Dutch, translated back to English. #LostInTranslation.

"Simply reiterated what we've said previously, which is that it's not coming out this year."

Publisher Bethesda confirmed a Prey 2 delay beyond 2012 back in April, citing quality concerns.

The "delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards", it said.

Unconfirmed reports earlier this year suggested developer Human Head stopped work on Prey 2 in November 2011 due to a contract dispute with Bethesda parent ZeniMax Media.

Unlike the linear shooter gameplay offered by 2006's well-received original, Human Head has said Prey 2 will feature an open world for players to bounty-hunt aliens in.
