Sony CEO: Vita sales 'pretty much near expectations'

But the system is "maybe trending behind in certain territories"

Sony CEO Kaz Hirai said today that Vita sales are roughly in line with the company's expectations.

But the former PlayStation boss also told Reuters that sales could be stronger in some markets.

"Worldwide, the Vita is pretty much along where we would expect it to be, maybe trending behind in certain territories," Hirai said.

Earlier this month SCE UK boss Fergal Gara said the company "would love" to be selling more Vitas, while SCEA chief Jack Tretton labelled Vita sales "acceptable".

Sony recently confirmed that worldwide Vita sales stood at 2.2 million units as of June 30, 2012. The handheld sold just 400,000 units globally during April, May and June. In comparison, its predecessor PSP sold around 1,000,000 units during the same period.
