Black Ops 2 confirmed for Wii U - first details

Activision shooter spotted at Nintendo Direct event

Update: Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg has confirmed Black Ops 2 Wii U, which he said will offer owners "the full Call of Duty" experience, running in high definition at 60 frames per second.

Not only will players be able to use the Wii U GamePad to access features like the mini-map, they'll also be able to play the game in co-op with one using the TV screen and the other using the GamePad screen. Whether this is the case in online multiplayer isn't clear as it was shown working in the game's Combat Training mode on the previously revealed Cargo map.

The game will also support the Wii U Pro Controller and Wii motion controllers.

Original story: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 has been spotted running on Wii U at Nintendo of America's Nintendo Direct event.

The sighting - via Joystiq - confirms a rumor from last month, when a Treyarch QA tester mentioned the Wii U platform on his LinkedIn profile.

It has already seemed highly likely that the game would be making its way to Wii U following reports in June of a Black Ops 2 preview in an issue of Nintendo Gamer.

And despite Activision having still not confirmed the game for Wii U, Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia has said he believes the game will hit the new Nintendo console this holiday, and "should contribute to incremental sales of the title and also the Wii U console".
