Microsoft has renewed its trademark for Rare's long-dormant fighting series, Killer Instinct.
That alone is enough to have TJ Combo fans bouncing in their seats, but what's even more notable is that MS chose to announce this fact via its Xbox Live Arcade blog - which itself serves as a hint to the possible destination for a new Killer Instinct game.
"With all due respect to our friends in the media who like to frequent trademark sites, we thought we'd break this one ourselves," said MS.
"Our legal eagles have authorized us to say: We have either renewed or refiled a trademark application in various jurisdictions."
That was all MS was willing to say, but that's one mighty teaser. Could we be looking at another N64 re-release for XBLA (like Banjo Kazooie HD) or an all-new Killer Instinct?
Killer Instinct Gold - the N64 rendition of the arcade-going Killer Instinct 2 - was released in 1996 and we've had nothing since.
Which would you prefer; a HD re-release or a new game altogether?
