At the Valencia eSports Congress, StarCraft 2 lead designer Dustin Browder revealed that Blizzard have considered a free-to-play option for StarCraft 2's multiplayer component.
Speaking on a panel at the congress, Browder said that while Blizzard have looked at the free-to-play option, they're not sure how to make it work. "We don't know how we would monetise it," he admitted.
"While it might be good fun for me to play against someone with only half the units available to them, that's not going to be an enjoyable experience for them."
The beta for StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm went live earlier this month.
