Bayonetta 2 'wouldn't exist without Nintendo,' says Platinum

Inaba continues to defend Wii U partnership

Without a partnership between Platinum Games and Nintendo, Bayonetta 2 probably would never be released, according to executive director Atsushi Inaba.

Speaking to Polygon, Inaba spoke candidly about the sequel's viability without aid from the house of Mario.

"Would Bayonetta 2 not exist without Nintendo? The answer is yes," he said. "We were looking for a partner to create Bayonetta 2 and Nintendo was a strong, cooperative partner that was willing to create and grow Bayonetta 2 together [with us]. As a result the platform became the Wii U."

Jubilation over the long-awaited sequel's announcement was overshadowed by a vocal contingent of fans voicing their anger at the game's exclusivity to the Wii U.

The studio addressed these concerns by saying 'it would never dream of alienating fans' and assuring them the partnership will allow Platinum to 'grow the Bayonetta brand'

CVG writer Nick Cowen echoed similar sentiments in a Bayonetta 2 opinion piece and argued a "sequel appearing on the Wii U is better than no sequel at all."
