XCOM: Enemy Unknown demo hits Steam

Sink your teeth into two levels of the tutorial campaign

A playable demo of 2K Games' XCOM: Enemy Unknown is on Steam today for PC.

The demo lets you play through two levels of the single-player tutorial campaign, where you'll fiddle with the combat controls and get an introduction to the XCOM base, where soldier training and researching alien technology takes place.

The publisher says a console demo will be released "soon".

2K Games previously confirmed an XCOM: Enemy Unknown release date of October 9 in North America and October 12 internationally.

The action strategy title's in development for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 at Civilization maker Fireaxis. Here's an official story overview:

Threatened by an unknown enemy, the Earth's governments unite to form a secret paramilitary organization, known as XCOM, to combat this extraterrestrial attack. As the commander of XCOM, you control the global defense team in a battle against a terrifying alien invasion by creating a fully operational base, researching alien technologies, planning combat missions, and controlling soldier movement in battle.
