XCOM FPS now a squad-based 3rd person shooter - rumour

BioShock 2 studio's next game may have gone back to the drawing board

It's being reported that 2K Games' XCOM FPS is now set to be released as a third person shooter.

Kotaku was sent a number of screenshots which allegedly originate from a marketing survey suggesting that the game has been reworked in a number of ways.

It's now reportedly being pitched as a squad-based game in the SOCOM or Republic Commando mould, with players commanding a team of agents.

The survey said the game is still in development at BioShock 2 studio 2K Marin, and also suggested that it may be console-only and possibly released as a $30 digital title as opposed to a full price retail one.

2K Games said in response to the report: "We have not made any new announcements regarding the XCOM title currently in development at 2K Marin, and it is our policy not to comment on rumors or speculation."

The game was announced in April 2010 as a PC and Xbox 360 title, but a PS3 version was confirmed last June alongside a then planned March 2012 XCOM release date, which was later delayed to 2013.

Most recently the game's release was delayed from 2K Games parent company Take-Two's current fiscal year to its next, which ends on March 31, 2014.
