10 essential WiiWare purchases

CVG hand picks some of the best content available on Nintendo's online store

It might not be the go-to place for your next gaming fix, but there are a number of gems hidden within Nintendo's virtual shop, if you're willing to look. Below, CVG puts the spotlight on ten digital delights worth considering.

01: World of Goo
Widely acclaimed as one of the best titles on Wiiware, World of Goo tasks players with using the titular goo and a few well-placed pipes to build vast structures across holes, pits and chasms. The physics system is reliable and trustworthy, which is fortunate, considering that the most fundamental rules of structure design must be honoured. Due to the increasing complexity of challenges, gameplay becomes addictive. A must-have Wiiware title.

02: Cave Story
If you're nostalgic for the golden years of games like Metroid, chances are you've played Cave Story. If not, you really should. A labour of love for creator Daisuke Amaya, this really feels like sitting down in front of your NES again.

03: Lost Winds: Winter of the Melodias
Arguably the prettiest game on this list, but there's plenty of substance too. Floating on the wind through the seasons is beautiful to look at and lovely to play. The puzzles are challenging, the music satisfying and story engaging. It's utterly charming.

04: Hydroventure
This game may look like a geography textbook, but there's something oddly compelling about that. Moving water from one space to another is a far more difficult task than you'd imagine, with all number of bizarre obstacles to make it just that little bit trickier.

05: MaBoShi: The Three Shape Arcade
Little awkward to explain, this one. There are only 3 games, but they're all on screen at once, either with 2 on autoplay whilst you play your choice, or as a multiplayer event. Each game is a relatively simple affair, but oddly a lot of fun.
